There is great need for renewal within the church.

There is a dreadful decline in attendance of church and a terrible drift away from God, no young people are attending our churches – they spend their time seeking entertainment. Our society is spiritually barren! Even within the church there is a growing apathy towards the things of God.

This was the view of the ministers of the Island of Lewis in 1949. They earnestly sought God, and in November of that year Revival broke out in the Hebrides, men and women overcome with consciousness of the presence of a holy God and of their sinfulness, crying out to God for forgiveness.
