In The Sunday Services
June 25th, 2009 by Andrew Drapper

The regular church service is the place where you will find most of your church members and attendees. There are many people who go to your church, or who would consider your church to be their church, who will never go to anything other than the regular Sunday services. So although it is important to grow and develop the prayer life of the church at the Bible study or the regular prayer meeting or the revival prayer meeting, many people will never attend those events unless you first move their hearts on a Sunday.

So what practical steps can you take to transform prayer in the Sunday service?

  1. Pray as the leader and the leadership that God will put a burden of powerful prayer on the congregation.

We can not expect to bring the church to prayer, if we neglect it’s importance or power to transform. Let us start with prayer. Pray for your church; pray for your leaders; pray for individuals to be burdened and gifted in public prayer.

  2. Set an example

Example given of prayer from a burdened heart (Set yourself on fire and some will catch fire with you). Are you not troubled and burdened in your heart? Make this an urgent matter of your personal prayer, (if you dare)

    1. Publicly pray with passion

    2. Use scripture when you pray

    3. Claim God’s promises

  3. Teaching / Preaching

    1. On prayer

    2. Also on the urgent need for prayer

      1. The lostness of the lost

      2. The holiness of God

      3. The wrath of God against sinners

      4. The mercy of God to the repentant

      5. The perversity of

        1. Their town/area

        2. Their Nation or Government

        3. Their local schools

        4. Global business

      6. etc

  4. Give time for a few to pray during the regular church services for… see above

  5. Begin to train and involve a wider pool of people in the intersessions?

    1. Let others lead in intersessions and see whom God has gifted with a heart to intercede
