We Take Another Step Towards The Bible Becoming Illegal In The UK!
Aug 23rd, 2009 by Andrew Drapper

The Bible in PrisonLast year I began to write about the fact that I could see a progression toward a time coming when the Bible will be declared illegal in the UK. Believe you me, I will be only too happy to be proved wrong on this, but what I see is that the evidence actually supports the idea that we are moving toward the time when the Bible will be illegal.

Just this week, (15th August 2009), The Telegraph carried a report about a street preacher being threatened with arrest for reading the Bible in public.

Miguel Hayworth and his Father were reading out the Bible and handing out tracts in Manchester, when he says that:

“I was approached on more than one occasion by several police officers who falsely accused me, stating that I was inciting hatred with homophobic and racial comments,”

The House of Lords back free speech
Jul 9th, 2009 by Andrew Drapper

House of lordsThe Government have said that criticising homosexual conduct or encouraging people to refrain from such conduct is not, in itself, a crime.

That is the good news, but they have been using this as a reason to remove free speech protection in sexual orientation ‘hatred’ law. The Government say that it is not necessary, insisting that the ‘homophobic hatred’ offence would not catch the expression of such beliefs.

The House of Lords however has defeated the Government over it’s attempt to repeal this free speech protection from a sexual orientation ‘hatred’ law. Peers voted by 186 to 133 to keep the protection in place.

Several members of the House of Lords were Read the rest of this entry »

Mark Woods, (Baptist Times), Replies, But No Apology!

Baptist Times Article

Baptist Times Article

I have had a reply now to the letter I sent to Mark Woods, (Editor Baptist Times). At the bottom of his email it says that, [his e-mail (including any attached files) may contain confidential and/or privileged information...... Any unauthorised copying, disclosure or distribution of the material in this e-mail is strictly forbidden.]‘ I do not believe I am really bound by this because of what the Baptist Times has said of Deborah and Matthew.I will not copy it here, but I will, let you have the gist of it.

Mark says that having now seen the documentary it does seem there are some inaccuracies and ascriptions in Mr Stuckey’s article. Mark puts this down to over-sketchy notes, so presumably that makes it OK.

He then asks whether these ‘slips’ affect Mr Stuckey’s judgement?

Let me just remind you that there were eleven direct quotes in Mr Stuckey’s article. Out of those eleven, only eleven, were misquoted, eight were changed to make the quote more extremist, three were mis-attributed and one had it’s meaning totally changed. So only a little slip!

Mark says that he believes that Mr Stuckey’s article is a reasonable response to the documentary, and that there is nothing to apologise for. Mark suggest that having totally misunderstood, (it must be misunderstood as Mark does not appear to believe that any exaggeration or deliberate spin has been put on the article), having totally misunderstood the meaning or attitude of many of the main characters in the documentary has not affected his judgement of the documentary.

Mark then goes on to blame the programme makers and us for our unhappiness with Mr Stuckey’s article, and explaining that we may not be able to see how it could be seen by others. But that, that is the risk that we have taken.

He then goes on to talk of Read the rest of this entry »

Baptist Times Does Hatchet Job On Deborah 13!

As many of you will know, last year the BBC commissioned a documentary about our family. It was originally intended to contrast our family, especially Deborah with other teens. In the end it focused quite a lot on Deborah and her faith.

The documentary was biased and cut to make Deborah look totally focused on Hell, (not so bad a thing then you think of it, but untrue). The producer and I think the cameraman kept asking Deborah to not smile, and have then set this footage to melancholy music that make Deborah look sad and lonely. Nun of this surprised us.

We as Christians do not expect fair treatment from the Secular media. We expect our words and actions to be misrepresented, misinterpreted and used against the Gospel. I would not want or expect to get soft or favourable coverage from the Christian news media. They would not be doing their journalistic jobs if they gave Christians an easy ride and were more rigorous with the non-Christians world. But we would at least expect a good standard of journalistic integrity and not sensationalistic and slanderous misrepresentation.

However, our experience has, at times, been Read the rest of this entry »

Will Your Bible Become Illegal?
Dec 10th, 2008 by Andrew Drapper

Bradley FowlerI am a few days out of date on this one, but I have just heard today that Bradley LaShawn Fowler, a homosexual man who has a blog on Sen. Barack Obama’s campaign website is suing two major Christian publishers for violating his constitutional rights and causing emotional pain, because the Bible versions they publish refer to homosexuality as a sin. According to Grand Rapids Press, he is seeking $60 million from Zondervan and another $10 million from Thomas Nelson Publishing in lawsuits filed in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.

Bradley claims that because Zondervan Bible references to homosexuality as a sin, it has made him an outcast from his family and contributed to physical discomfort and periods of “demoralization, chaos and bewilderment.” Zondervan far from defending the Bible or their right to say that homosexuality is a sin, passed the buck and said that he’s suing the wrong party. A company spokesman told WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids that Read the rest of this entry »
