It’s conclusive. Neandertals are human
Jun 28th, 2010 by Andrew Drapper

Hi all,

I have not posted to Bible Matters for a while as I have not had much news to post and there has not been much in the news, that I did not feel that others where not covering well already. There may bee some news about an outreach in Portsmouth coming up soon and may be a trip to India to do some teaching, but more of that latter.

Today, however I had an email from creation.com, and just wanted to share it with you all. Many people keep saying that science will prove the Bible wrong, but little by little it does the opposite. The email says.

It’s conclusive. Neandertals are human

About ten years ago, the human genome was sequenced and published. It cost about 3 billion dollars and took a decade to finish. Genetics studies have advanced considerably since then, and we are now able to sequence DNA thousands of times faster for much less money. This has ushered in an age of ancient DNA studies that was unimaginable just a few short years ago. Ancient DNA is highly degraded and in old bones it is invariably broken into millions of short pieces. We can now sequence this DNA and on the forefront of this new wave was the recent publication of the Neandertal genome. Read the rest of this entry »

How Old Is The Earth
Feb 19th, 2010 by Andrew Drapper

I have just received this new video from Eric Hovind.

It is amazing just how much you can fit into 60 seconds. In just 60 seconds Eric raises some very interesting questions about just how old the Earth can be. There are many limiting factors to the Earth being very old.

People who argue  for an old Earth often answer these questions with unsupported statement like comets come form the Oort Cloud. An un-observed invention of  the Dutch astronomer, Jan Hendrik Oort.

Really big numbers!!!
Dec 26th, 2009 by Andrew Drapper

I was sent this interesting quote today.

“Any possibility that intelligent life on earth or elsewhere evolved by chance can be quickly dismissed. Eminent British astronomer Sir Fred Hoyle points out that “even if the whole universe consisted of organic soup” from which life is made, the chance of producing the basic enzymes of life by random processes without intelligent direction would be approximately one in 10 with 40,000 zeros after it. The impossibility of that number can be seen in the following illustration. Read the rest of this entry »

Origins in Oxford, UK

Ray Comforts new edition

Ray Comforts new edition

We have been given the great privilege of joining with Ray Comfort and Living Waters and many, many volunteers to help distribute over 170,000 copies of Origin of Species.

I know you might be confused – “What? The Drappers are giving out Charles Darwin’s ‘Origin of Species’! You are joking?”

Well, I think it is only fair to give both sides of an argument. Ray Comfort, of Living Waters, has taken Charles Darwin’s original book and added a 50 page special introduction. This includes the History of evolution, Timelines of Darwin’s life, Intelligent Design vs. Evolution, as well as a clear gospel message.

Yesterday, Joel, Kirsty, Deborah, and I joined a team of around 20 others, organised by Paul Taylor of Answers in Genesis, to take the 150th Anniversary Special Edition “Origin of Species” book into Oxford to give out to University Students.

If you want to buy some copies to donate to your library or local school then you can buy them here.

You can see how God blessed us in Oxford in the video below. Read the rest of this entry »

Richard Dawkins launches children’s summer camp for atheists.
Jul 3rd, 2009 by Andrew Drapper

BBC Newsjack Logo

The Headlines across Britain on Sunday read something like “Richard Dawkins launches children’s summer camp for atheists” the truth is much more mundane but no less dangerous. The camps are being run by Samantha Stein, and Richard Dawkins is only lending support both financially and by endorsing the project.

I have been wanting to make some comment on this for some time, but in many ways the BBC have done the job so well I am not sure what to add to it.

The emphasis of these camps will aledgely be on ‘critical thinking’. This is to be epitomised by a test called the Invisible Unicorn Challenge. Children will be told by camp leaders that the area around their tents is inhabited by two unicorns. Read the rest of this entry »

Kent Hovind, Just What Is The Story?
May 17th, 2009 by Andrew Drapper

Kent Hovind

Kent Hovind

A few people have asked me about the story behind Kent Hovind ending up in prison. We I really do not know the full story. I do know it was over a stand as he saw it, against un constitutional taxes.

The article below is a comment from Tyron Foreman’s Blogspot, “Free Kent Hovind”. (You can find out more here)

Who Wrote Genesis?
Apr 21st, 2009 by Andrew Drapper

I havePage from Genesis been asked to talk about how do we know we can trust the book of Genesis? Who wrote it? Isn’t it just word of mouth, folk rumour? What evidence do we have about the origins of Genesis?

If any other book had the corroborating evidence that Genesis has there would be no question about it accuracy or its reliability. But Genesis talks about God and the creation of the world, of sin and its effects on us. It also shows God’s judgement a sinful world and on man’s rebellion. For this reason it is probably the most attacked historical document in the world.

So what are the origins of Genesis?

There are eleven statements in the book of Genesis that appear to give fairly clear indication of the origins of Genesis. These eleven statements all say something like ‘These are the generations of…’ then give the name of one of the patriarchs. We have Adam, Noah, the sons of Noah, Shem, Terah, Ishmael, Abraham, Isaac, etc. All except the Read the rest of this entry »

Just What Did Happen In Noah's Flood?
Nov 20th, 2008 by Andrew Drapper

Ark of noahs timeThe Bible accounts of the Creation and the Flood of Noah’s day are absolutely foundational to what Christians believe. If God did not create the world he has no rights over it, and the flood account models for us God’s right to judge the world. If God did create the world he does have rights over it and the Flood teaches us He will judge it.

One of my children’s favorite DVD’s is The Hovind Theory by Kent Hovind. I was sat watching it the other day and it was a newer recording of it than I have watched before and he has a great clip in it from Walt Brown.

Walt Brown gives one of the best explanations I have ever seen of the science behind the Flood of Noah’s day in under 7 minuets. The clip is available on YouTube so I have put it in below. The quality is not very good, but Read the rest of this entry »

When the morning stars sang
Nov 1st, 2008 by Andrew Drapper

stars 02This morning the BBC report under the heading ‘Team records ‘music’ from stars‘ that “Scientists have recorded the sound of three stars similar to our Sun using France’s Corot space telescope.” Surprise surprise – God in the Bible tells us that the Stars sing. When God is talking to Job and is in short saying how ignorant man is, says

4. Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding. 5. Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it? 6. Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof; 7. When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

Job 38:4-7 (KJV)

If only scientist read their Bibles more they would find the answers the seek so much faster.
